The Sony BDV-EF200 boasts superb picture quality and some useful features, such as 3D support, an iPod dock and access to superb online content. But the system’s sound quality leaves a lot to be desired, and build quality isn’t up to the standards we’d normally associate with Sony. Then again, at this price some sacrifices were always expected.

The Samsung UN46C7000 comes in the standard glossy black bezel with curved edges, though its bottom half sports a translucent silver that shows a hint of amber color. The UltraClear Panel screen, which measures 1 inch thin, rests on a chrome, four-legged stand that can swivel to support its viewing angle. The Samsung PN51D7000 comes in Samsung’s Plasma +1, its trademark reduced bezel which allows for bigger screen sizes within smaller frames than normal. Thanks to that, this glossy black frame measures just 1.5 inches thing, and rests on a similarly-styled stand with the company’s signature touch of clear plastic that swivels to support its viewing angle. Speaking of the LCD, it’s what Toshiba calls a CineSpeed Panel, which makes it capable of an 8 millisecond response time. Of course, the set rests on an equally glossy black, stationary stand. The Fujifilm FinePix Z900 EXR is a stylish little ultra-compact that feels solid and well made. The large 3.5in monitor is sharp and clear and remains useable outdoors in bright conditions too. The touchscreen controls are perfectly responsive and the new icon-based menu is easy to navigate. Overall, we’d say that image quality is on a par with other compacts in this price range. The EXR-specific shooting modes deliver plenty of contrast and also help to reduce noise in low-light conditions. The lens can be a bit soft though, especially at the edges and corners and at its telephoto extremes.

Acer isn’t a king of industrial design, and the Iconia Tab A100 is a bit of a clunker when it comes to looks. That’s OK though; this tablet has a lot of other things going for it. The Iconia Tab A100 is a 7.7-by-4.6-by-0.5-inch (HWD), 13.9-ounce tablet made of shiny plastic with a cheap-looking silver design on its blue-gray back. Both the front and back feel a little greasy, and tend to attract fingerprints. The tablet has a standard 3.5-mm headphone jack, Volume buttons, an Orientation Lock switch, a Power button, and a bunch of ports on the bottom. It charges from a proprietary adapter rather than a standard micro USB connection, but it also has a micro USB port to connect to PCs, and a micro HDMI port to hook the tablet up to an HDTV.

This is all pretty remarkable stuff – and raises real hopes that this could be one of those much-beloved devices that you can buy as a business expense but also take home at weekends!
