The 46G310U comes in the standard glossy black bezel, though it’s thick around the LCD and measures just over 3.5 inches deep. Speaking of the LCD, it’s what Toshiba calls a CineSpeed Panel, which makes it capable of an 8 millisecond response time. Of course, the set rests on an equally glossy black, stationary stand. There are two items on the X775′s feature list that are worth pointing out immediately. The Blu-ray drive may not be that rare, but it’s a praise-worthy complement to the 1080p HD screen. You can hook it up to a living room HDTV using the built-in HDMI port, and watch your Blu-ray flicks on a big screen. Then there’s the X775′s pair of 5,400rpm hard drives: They have capacities of 500GB and 750GB, for a total of 1.25TB. One of them is a hybrid, which means it contains 4GB of flash storage that loads the operating system so it boots in an instant. The feature set on the L755-S5271 is fairly standard for a budget laptop, with two standard USB 2.0 ports, and a third USB 2.0 port that also offers Toshiba’s Sleep n’ Charge, a feature that lets you charge cellphones, media players, and the like while the laptop is powered down. The L755-S5271 is also outfitted with a Kensington Lock slot, microphone and headphone jacks, and a VGA output for connecting an external monitor. One great feature is the inclusion of an HDMI output, which lets you connect your laptop to an HDTV and view uncompressed 1080p content on a larger screen. Unfortunately, Toshiba has only included a DVD burner, so your high-definition content will need to either be streamed from the Web or saved to some sort of flash media. Speaking of which, the L755-S5271 also has a built-in multi-format card reader (SD, SDHC, MS/Pro, MMC, xD). For networking, the L775-S571 offers both Ethernet and 802.11n Wi-Fi, but features like WiMAX mobile broadband and WiDi 2.0 aren’t usually seen on systems in this price range, though they are both found on the Sony VAIO VPC-EH14FM/B . The Satellite L775-S571 is also equipped with a 640GB 5,400rpm hard drive, which is larger than the 500GB drive found on the top-rated HP dv6-6013cl and matches the drive found in the Asus U56E-BBL5.

Toshiba GL Series Glasses-Free 3D TV

Toshiba will be the first company to bring a glasses-free 3D TV to market. The launch is planned for late December and in Japan only. Two initial models, the 20-inch Toshiba 20GL1 and 12-inch Toshiba 12GL1, both will be based on the parallax barrier approach found in the Nintendo 3DS. The approach requires that viewers sit in sweet spots but is more comfortable over long periods and cheaper for multiple viewers.

The 20-inch model will be powered by a custom Cell processor, similar to that used in Sony’s PS3 and which was co-developed by Toshiba in conjunction with Sony and IBM. Its 20-inch 720p display is LED backlit and will also play 2D images. For maximum effect, viewers must sit back at least 2.95 feet away from the screen. It will incorporate a range of ports including CEC-capable HDMI, USB and Ethernet.

The 12-inch model drops the Cell processor, as its lower 466×350 resolution doesn’t require the same level of processing power to deliver the same effect. Optimal viewing is achieved from a minimum distance of 2.13 feet. It’s also equipped with LED backlighting and similar ports but can double as a photo frame, accepting SD cards loaded with JPEG images. The SD card can also play AVCHD files, and the TV can tune in 1Seg over-the-air TV when in Japan.

The 20-inch will retail for the equivalent of $2,900 and the 12-inch for $1,450. International pricing and availability has yet to be announced.
