Toshiba RD-G503 Vardia-Series DVR: Including the 500GB-capacity. Its support a DVD burner and is capable of recording video in MPEG-2 TS and in H.264/MPEG-4 AVC formats. A secondary remote is included with this DVR, offering a limited number of buttons to perform simple tasks, allowing owners to put away the full-function remote.
The Vardia DVR is capable of upscaling standard DVDs to near-HD quality, while a built-in ground and BS/110 degree CS digital tuner are built-in to receive TV programming. The delete function can be set to erase partially recorded TV programs that get cut when the power goes out to prevent wasting hard drive space. Dual-layer and rewritable DVDs are compatible with the Vardia DVR. Connecting either DVR to a compatible Toshiba HDTV allows users to control both devices via a single remote.
The integrated video DAC is a 10-bit/148.5MHz unit capable of supporting 1080i or 720p resolutions, while the simpler 10-bit/108MHz supports 480i/480p resolutions. Audio is handled by a 24-bit/192kHz DAC. Connections on the DVR include an HDMI link, a D4 connection, S-video, composite and RCA audio along with an optical audio output. Inputs are made up of two S-video connections, two composites, and two audio RCA pairs, while an Ethernet port allows for hooking up to a home network. The G503 is available in both white and black. The Toshiba DVR will be released on February 1st, priced at the equivalent of about $790.
