Altec new computer speaker system composed of two multi-driver desktop speakers and a subwoofer, as well as the MIX Boombox, which sports a built-in iPod dock. The Expressionist Ultra speakers have 200W RMS of power from individual amplifiers split between the two 3-inch drivers, 1-inch neodymium dome tweeters and a 6.5-inch subwoofer.
The speakers can be adjusted for treble and bass via a controller, and there are both aux-in and RCA jacks to adapt to other sources. A headphone jack is also built in. The MIX Boombox can accommodate iPods and iPhones thanks to its dock connector, as well as other Apple and other brand audio players via its twin 3.5mm auxiliary input jacks. There is also an FM tuner, and users can custom-tailor the sound thanks to a seven-band graphic equalizer.
Like classic boomboxes, users can take their music away from an outlet thanks to eight D-cell batteries for 30 hours of operation and heavy-duty carrying handles. Sound is reproduced through a 5.25-inch side-firing subwoofer, two 3-inch midrange drivers and two 1-inch polypropylene cone tweeters.
The MIX is shielded to prevent the well-known GSM “buzz” from an iPhone and will work without invoking airplane mode as a result. An included remote can be stored in the Boombox itself and has a built-in carabiner clip so it doesn’t get lost. The Expressionist Ultra speaker system and MIX Boombox are already shipping and priced at $200 and $300, respectively.
